A retired Bedfordshire couple have gone back to their countryside roots and moved into a traditional bungalow in the scenic location of Houghton Fields, at a Mulberry Homes development.
Jane (69) and Peter (72) Brown previously had a home in Dunstable but fell in love with the quintessential village setting of Houghton Conquest and are enjoying the peaceful country life in their new property.
Before moving to the development, the couple lived in a four bedroom semi-detached chalet bungalow for more than 38 years, but knew when they finally did move they wanted it to be somewhere really special.
Peter commented: “Our house was too big for us having had the family flown the nest and the maintenance had become a real chore and worry for us.
“Having searched for a new build property and only found two developments with bungalows, we were on the verge of buying a house. The other bungalows we looked at were very small and compact but Mulberry Homes offered us three bedrooms, an en suite, kitchen and breakfast room, a large lounge/ dining room and a garage.
“Although it was in effect downsizing, this home met our needs without losing space and comfort. We can still have the family to stay and the grandchildren love ‘their rooms’.”
The couple can now benefit from the quiet village life and are in close proximity to a post office, general store and a selection of pubs and restaurants. The village hall is also very active, with regular meetings and fitness classes providing activities for everyone. A regular bus service running through the village also makes everything accessible without having to rely on a car.
A Mulberry property offered the couple the perfect blend of traditional and modern living, giving them the opportunity to own a truly unique property, entirely stress free from needing any DIY.
Peter added: “We have received an amazing amount of support from Keelan and the Mulberry Homes team and the customer service has been second to none.
“Everything was explained thoroughly to ensure we got the most out of our move.
“We have been so lucky with our neighbours, they’re lovely people that we get on extremely well with. As we are in a street of just six similar bungalows we are surrounded by people of similar ages, circumstances and with the same outlook and requirements from life. We all get on very well together, it is very nice and helps you settle.”
