Planning Associate
The purpose of the role
Assisting with the management of Strategic Land development opportunities and planning activities.
Key activities and opportunities for personal development
- Promotion of land through the planning process with a view to securing allocations of land for housing and commercial development,
- The preparation and submission of planning applications and the handling of appeals,
- Liaison with landowners over progress on site promotion,
- The appointment of external consultants,
- The monitoring of Local Plan documents, housing land supply and competitor activity,
- Community engagement on site promotions and planning applications,
- Developing skills in project viability and delivery,
- Production of monthly progress reports on key projects,
- Assisting to develop planning strategies for individual projects,
- Consideration of a range of development options,
- Manage budgets and professional fees,
- Management of external consultants to ensure that they deliver effectively, on time and to budget,
- Communicate well at all levels internally within the group and externally with public bodies, consultants, landowners and the general public/local community
- Liaison with statutory bodies to assist in the resolving of technical and design issues,

Key competencies
- Be commercially aware of contractual obligations on each project in order to ensure that these can be met before committing expenditure to a given project,
- Secure best value when appointing consultants and forecast fee spend accurately,
- Develop an understanding of land values, build and infrastructure costs to underpin scheme viability,
- Embrace innovative solutions,
- Develop a detailed understanding of government planning policy, the Local Plan process and housing land supply issues,
- Develop a full understanding of option/collaboration/hybrid and promotion agreements and related land issues,
- Undertake continual professional development and embrace Health and Safety procedures,

Experience and the role
It is desirable that the candidate will have a background in planning
Candidates with a suitable degree will be fully supported towards a professional accreditation (RTPI/RICS).

Planning Manager
The purpose of the role
Assisting with the management of Strategic Land development opportunities and planning activities.
Key activities and opportunities for personal development
- Promotion of land through the planning process with a view to securing allocations of land for housing and commercial development,

- Work with the immediate Land team to review site layout and constraints and ensure assumptions are achievable and can be secured through reserved matters,
- Management of Reserved matters planning applications and discharge planning conditions
- Tracking discharge of conditions, S106 payments
- Liaison with landowners over progress on site promotion,
- The appointment of external consultants,
- The monitoring of Local Plan documents, housing land supply and competitor activity,
- Community engagement on site promotions and planning applications,
- Developing skills in project viability and delivery,
- Production of monthly progress reports on key projects,
- Assisting to develop planning strategies for individual projects,
- Consideration of a range of development options,

Experience and the role
The candidate will have at least 3 years appropriate background in planning matters (Local Authority – policy / development management or working for a housebuilder or consultancy).
Candidates with a suitable degree will be fully supported towards a professional accreditation (RTPI/RICS).
